What Is A Concentrate?

Hemp-Derived Concentrates at Big Chiefs Kush

Big Chiefs Kush carries hemp-derived cannabis concentrates at both Kansas City locations. Concentrates are the most potent form of hemp-derived cannabis available, made by extracting the active compounds from the plant and leaving the leafy material behind.

Our Waldo shop on 74th Street keeps a rotating selection on the counter, and the team is ready to walk you through what we have stocked this week. Walk in, look at what is in the case, and ask for recommendations.

A hemp-derived concentrate is a refined product made by extracting the potent compounds from hemp flower, leaving behind plant material for something far more concentrated than what you smoke loose. Quality varies enormously across brands and shops. The cleaner the extraction and the better the source material, the better the result. At Big Chiefs Kush, every one we carry is selected to the same premium standard as the flower we sell loose, with nothing cut, padded, or compromised.
Types We Carry

Types of Concentrates We Stock

Inventory rotates often, so the exact brands and strains on the counter change. Here are the categories we typically carry.

🕯️

Wax

Wax is one of the most familiar concentrate styles. It has a soft, opaque texture that scoops easily and works in most dab setups. Customers who are newer to concentrates often start here because the consistency is forgiving and the price point is generally accessible.

💧

Live Resin

Live resin captures more of the plant’s original aromatic compounds because it is extracted from material that was flash-frozen rather than dried first. The result is a concentrate with a brighter, more pronounced terpene profile. Customers who care about flavor as much as potency tend to gravitate toward live resin.

🧪

Rosin

Rosin is a solventless concentrate, which means it is made using heat and pressure rather than chemical extraction. Many customers prefer rosin for that reason. The texture varies from a pourable sauce to a stiff badder depending on the batch and starting material.

🧊

Hash

Hash is the oldest form of cannabis concentrate and is still one of the most requested. Modern hash production at the quality level we stock looks very different from the brick hash older customers might remember. Ours is bubble hash or ice water hash, which preserves more of the original character of the flower it came from.

Why Us

Why Choose Big Chiefs Kush for Concentrates

Concentrate quality varies more than almost any other product category in this industry. A bad concentrate is not just disappointing; it can be unsafe. Here is what makes our concentrate selection different.

🛡️

Every product is warranty-backed

If something is wrong with what you bought, bring it back. We do not know any other shop in Kansas City that stands behind concentrates the way we do. You can learn more about Big Chiefs Kush and how we got here.

👃

You can see and smell before you buy.

Concentrates are tricky to evaluate from a label. The color, the consistency, and the aroma tell you most of what you need to know. We open the jar at the counter so you can look closely and ask questions.

📦

Rotating inventory, not warehouse stock.

Our concentrate selection turns over roughly every two weeks. Customers who shop here regularly know that what is on the counter today is fresh, and what was on the counter a month ago has moved.

👑

Staff who actually use what we sell.

When you ask which concentrate is hitting the hardest right now, you are going to get a real answer from someone who has tried it, not a memorized pitch.

how it works

How to Shop for Concentrates at Big Chiefs Kush

If you have never bought hemp-derived concentrates before, here is what to expect.
STEP #1

Find the concentrate display

Both Kansas City locations keep concentrates in a dedicated case near the flower counter. Tell the staff what you are interested in, whether that is a specific texture, a flavor profile, or a price point.

STEP #2

Ask to see and smell whatever catches your eye

We open the jar at the counter. You can look at the color, the consistency, and the way it sits in the jar. You can also smell it directly. It is how serious concentrate buyers shop. If you also want to compare against flower, the team can pull out something from our premium cannabis flower selection. 21+ only with valid ID required.

STEP #3

Ask the team what they have been into lately

We rotate inventory often enough that there is almost always something new worth pointing out, and the staff will tell you honestly if a product is not living up to its description.

STEP #4

Pay and head out

Both locations accept cash, debit, credit, and Apple Pay. Walk-ins only; no appointment needed.

Common Problems & Solutions

What Goes Wrong with Concentrates at Other Shops

We hear the same stories from customers who tried other Kansas City shops before they found us.

Old, oxidized product.

Concentrates degrade. The terpenes break down, the color shifts to a darker amber or brown, and the flavor goes flat. A shop that does not rotate inventory ends up with a counter full of product that lost its character months ago.

Mislabeled potency.

Some concentrates on the market are labeled with potency numbers that do not match what is actually in the jar. We only stock product we can verify, from sources we trust.

No way to evaluate before buying.

Most shops will not open the jar for you. You pay, you go home, and you find out what you actually bought. That is not how we do it.

Pressure to buy what is on sale.

Concentrates are expensive enough that a customer should never feel pushed into a purchase. We tell people honestly if they should wait for a different drop.

Walk-Ins Are Welcome!

Visiting Our Waldo Store

Our Waldo cannabis store sits at 218 W. 74th St, just off the main commercial strip on Wornall Road, in one of the most established neighborhoods in south Kansas City. Waldo runs from Gregory Boulevard down to 85th Street and from Troost all the way to State Line Road, which puts our western edge right on the Kansas-Missouri border. We are minutes from the Country Club Plaza to the north and Brookside to the east, and the drive from Overland Park or Leawood is short enough that a lot of our regular customers cross the state line to shop here. If you are downtown, head over to our Crossroads location. Walk-ins only, valid 21+ ID required.

Cash, debit, credit, and Apple Pay accepted. No appointment needed, walk-ins welcome. ID required at the door (21+). Waldo is open later than most cannabis shops in Kansas City —10 AM until 12AM daily.
Pricing

Concentrate Pricing at Big Chiefs Kush

Concentrate pricing varies more than flower pricing because the production methods are so different. Solventless concentrates like rosin generally cost more than solvent-extracted wax. Live resin sits somewhere in the middle. Hash pricing depends on the production technique.

We carry concentrates at a range of price points so customers shopping for an everyday product and customers looking for something exceptional can both find what they need. Current pricing is on the in-store menu; we do not list specific concentrate prices online because our selection rotates and posted prices go stale fast.

Walk in, look at what we have stocked, and we will tell you what every option costs.

Yes. We open the jar at the counter so you can look at the color, check the consistency, and smell the product directly before deciding. This is how we sell every category, and it is especially important for concentrates because the label rarely tells you what you need to know.

All of our concentrates are kept in airtight containers in temperature-controlled conditions before they reach the display case. We rotate inventory often enough that nothing sits long enough to oxidize. If a product is past its prime, it does not make it to the counter.
