The Country Club Plaza is one of the great Kansas City experiences and one of its more frustrating ones depending on what time you visit. Weekend afternoons, Plaza Lights season, Plaza Art Fair weekends, holiday shopping in December: parking gets tight and traffic backs up. The garages on the Plaza are free during the day but they fill up. On-street spots on Nichols Road and the cross streets get hunted aggressively.
Big Chiefs Kush is south. We’re at 218 W. 74th St in Waldo, about 10 minutes south on Wornall Road in normal traffic. There’s no contested parking around our shop. Free on-street spots are available on 74th and the residential blocks nearby. You park, you walk to the door, you’re inside.
For a Plaza shopper who wants to grab hemp-derived cannabis without spending another 20 minutes looking for a spot, the practical answer is to head south.
The Wornall Route South (Or the Trail)
Wornall Road is the primary north-south corridor connecting the Plaza to Waldo. From the Plaza at roughly 47th Street, Wornall runs south through Brookside, then through the Gregory Boulevard border into Waldo, and arrives at our intersection at 74th. That’s about 28 blocks. In light traffic, 10 minutes. During Plaza events, the first few blocks south of the Plaza can be slow, but Wornall opens up once you’re past the Brookside Shopping District at 63rd.
The Trolley Track Trail is the other option. The trail starts near the Plaza at Volker Boulevard and runs south through Brookside to Waldo, ending at 85th and Prospect. The trail crosses Wornall at 74th, which is our intersection. From the Plaza to our front door on the trail is about 3 miles on a mostly flat, partially shaded route. Cyclists and walkers use it for exactly this kind of trip.
If you’re already at the Plaza without a car, the trail is the cleanest path south. If you have a car and don’t want to deal with Plaza event traffic, Wornall is faster.
Stopping In on the Way Back to Kansas
The Kansas state line is one mile west of the Plaza. A lot of Plaza shoppers live in Overland Park, Leawood, Prairie Village, or Mission. The route home from the Plaza back to Kansas usually involves heading west on Brush Creek or a south-then-west pattern through Waldo or Brookside.
Our Waldo location sits about 8 to 12 blocks east of State Line Road, depending on how you count. For a Kansas-side customer driving home from the Plaza, we’re essentially on the way. You don’t have to detour to get to us. The route to State Line passes our part of Wornall whether you take 75th, 79th, or 85th to get west.
This is one of the reasons we get a steady stream of Kansas-side customers at the Waldo store. It’s a short crossing back to Missouri, and we’re a few blocks east of the line.
Hemp-Derived vs. Licensed: What We Sell
There is no hemp-derived shop or licensed Missouri marijuana dispensary inside the Plaza boundaries. The Plaza itself, from 46th to Brush Creek and Mill Creek Parkway to Madison, has neither.
Big Chiefs Kush is a hemp-derived cannabis shop, regulated under federal hemp law. We sell hemp-derived flower, pre-rolls, vapes, concentrates, and edibles to customers 21 and over.
The closest licensed Missouri marijuana dispensaries to the Plaza are The Forest at 706 Westport Road (north) and From The Earth on Southwest Blvd (further north into the Crossroads). Both are north, not south. If you want licensed Missouri marijuana product specifically, you’ll be driving north into Westport or the Crossroads, not south to us. If you want hemp-derived cannabis, we’re a short drive south on Wornall.

If you’re driving from the Plaza, take Wornall south. You’ll pass through the Brookside Shopping District at 63rd along the way, which is itself worth a stop if you have time. Our shop is at 74th. Is there a dispensary on the Country Club Plaza?

Can I bike the Trolley Track Trail to your shop?
Yes. The Harry Wiggins Trolley Track Trail starts near the Plaza at Volker Boulevard and runs 6 miles south through Brookside to 85th and Prospect, passing 74th and Wornall, our intersection, along the way. The ride from the Plaza to our front door is roughly 3 miles on a mostly flat, partially shaded trail.
Do you have parking?
We don’t have a dedicated lot, but free on-street parking is widely available on 74th Street and the surrounding residential blocks. Unlike Plaza shopping during peak times, you can almost always find a spot within a one-block walk. There are no meters on the residential streets around our location.
What's the hours difference during Plaza events?
Plaza Art Fair, Plaza Lights, and other events can extend parking and traffic challenges around the Plaza into evening hours. Big Chiefs Kush Waldo is open daily from 10am to midnight regardless of Plaza events. For visitors leaving the Plaza after dinner or shopping, our shop south on Wornall is usually faster to reach than circling Plaza parking.
