What Goes Wrong With Most Pre-Rolls
Crossroads gets a steady mix of regulars from downtown, walk-ins from the Power & Light District, and customers who drove in from the Plaza or Westport. The complaints we hear are pretty consistent, and most of them come from product bought somewhere else. Here’s what to watch for, and what we do differently:
Smoke that tastes like shake or stems
Most cheap product is filled with leftover trim and lower-tier flower. The smoke is harsh, the flavor is flat, and the burn is uneven.
Uneven burns and canoeing
Loose packing, bad rolling, or overdried flower causes one side to burn down faster than the other instead of burning evenly across the tip.
No idea what strain you're actually smoking
Generic labeling won’t tell you what’s inside. You can’t pick by effect, flavor, or strength because the information isn’t there.
Stale stock
Anything sitting on a shelf for months loses moisture, flavor, and potency. Fresh stock matters.
Visiting Our Crossroads Location
Our Crossroads shop sits at 527 Southwest Blvd, on the stretch that runs between the East Crossroads brewery cluster and the gallery row up toward 19th and Baltimore. The building keeps the bones of the district: exposed brick, warm amber lighting, dark wood beams, rotating murals. It reads as gallery-meets-cannabis-shop, which fits a neighborhood where the warehouses became studios and the studios became restaurants.
The customer base shifts by day of the week. Weekday afternoons pull regulars from the downtown loop, Power & Light District workers heading home, and people coming up from Union Station. Weeknight crowds skew toward the East Crossroads bar and brewery scene — Tom’s Town, Torn Label, Border Brewing, City Barrel — and concerts at the Truman, recordBar, and the Kauffman Center send a wave of foot traffic on event nights. First Friday is its own thing: galleries stay open late on the first Friday of every month, the streets fill with around 10,000 people, and we extend our window of regulars by a few hours.
Getting here is straightforward. Southwest Boulevard has street parking, with additional surface lots a block in either direction. The KC Streetcar’s Crossroads stop at 19th & Main puts you a short walk away, and the MAX bus stops at the same intersection. From I-35 northbound, take the Southwest Boulevard exit and you’re three blocks east. From the Plaza, it’s about 10 minutes north up Main; from Westport, about 5 minutes east; from River Market, about 8 minutes south.
If Crossroads isn’t convenient, our Waldo location at 218 W. 74th St, Kansas City, MO 64114 carries the same products and the same standards. Most customers stick with whichever shop is closer to home.

What is a pre-roll?
A pre-roll is a ready-to-smoke product that’s already rolled, packed, and ready to light. You buy it and smoke it. No grinding, no rolling, no prep.
What's the difference between a regular and an infused option?
A regular one is just flower, rolled and ready to smoke. An infused version has concentrate, kief, or distillate added inside or coated outside, which makes it stronger and slower-burning.
How long does a pre-roll stay fresh?
Stored sealed and away from light, it stays at peak quality for about 30 to 60 days. After that the flower starts drying out and losing flavor. Our inventory rotates fast, so what’s on the shelf is fresh.
Can I see them before I buy?
Yes. We open jars and show product at the counter. You can also see the flower they’re made from. We don’t ask you to buy blind.
Do you have $2 deals at both locations?
Yes. $2 promotional selections run at both Crossroads and Waldo. Specific strains rotate. Walk in and ask what’s on the deal that day.
Where can I park near the Crossroads shop?
Street parking is available directly on Southwest Boulevard in front of the shop and on the cross streets. Surface lots are within a block in either direction. On First Fridays and concert nights, expect tighter parking — most regulars come in via the KC Streetcar (Crossroads stop at 19th & Main, about a 6-minute walk) or rideshare.
